Exciting News: Now Certified in Manual Lymphatic Drainage!

I’m excited to share some big news—I’ve officially earned my certification as a Certified Holistic Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) Practitioner through Evergreen Certifications! This advanced training allows me to bring an even deeper level of care to my clients here at IRIE Massage Therapy & Bodywork in Huntington Beach.

But what exactly is Manual Lymphatic Drainage, and why is it such a powerful addition to massage therapy? Let’s take a closer look.

What Is Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)?

Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a gentle, hands-on technique designed to support the body’s lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is a crucial part of your immune system. It helps remove waste, toxins, and excess fluid from the body, while also transporting infection-fighting white blood cells.

When this system becomes sluggish – whether due to surgery, illness, or lifestyle factors – you may experience swelling, fatigue, or a sense of heaviness. MLD uses light, rhythmic strokes that follow the body’s natural lymphatic pathways to encourage fluid movement and restore balance.

The Benefits of Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Clients often describe feeling “lighter” and more refreshed after a session. The benefits can include:

  • Reduced swelling (edema): Helpful after surgery or injury, or for those dealing with water retention.
  • Detoxification support: Encourages the removal of waste and toxins from tissues.
  • Boosted immunity: By supporting the lymphatic system, your body is better able to fight off illness.
  • Improved circulation: Helps oxygen and nutrients flow more efficiently through your body.
  • Stress relief and relaxation: The gentle, soothing nature of MLD makes it deeply calming.

Who Can Benefit from MLD?

Manual Lymphatic Drainage can be especially beneficial for:

  • Post-surgical clients (such as cosmetic or orthopedic procedures) to reduce swelling and support healing.
  • Those with lymphedema or chronic swelling conditions.
  • Individuals with autoimmune conditions who may benefit from immune support.
  • People experiencing stress, tension, or fatigue who want a lighter, more balanced feeling.
  • Athletes seeking faster recovery after training or injury.

Of course, every body is unique, and MLD isn’t a one-size-fits-all therapy. As always, I tailor every session to your individual needs and goals.

What to Expect During a Session

Unlike some massage techniques that use deep pressure, MLD is performed with very light, precise movements. Many clients are surprised at how gentle it feels—but also how effective it is.

During your session, you’ll lie comfortably while I use slow, rhythmic strokes to stimulate lymphatic flow. The treatment is non-invasive and deeply relaxing. Some people even fall asleep during their session! Afterward, you may notice reduced swelling, a sense of lightness, or even improved energy.
